Evgeniya Laritskaya reports that she is 45th on the list for a tail for her Aeros Combat L 12. You saw the tail on Primoz's Aeros Combat in the pictures from Bassano. You saw the red prototype tail here.
So tails are available for existing Aeros Combats, not just their 09 model.
So how do we react to this? Pilots might say:
1) It seems like a lot of Aeros gliders have been tucking and tumbling lately, so this is a fix;
2) or, finally a flex wing manufacturer has realized that flex wing gliders are susceptible to tucks and tumbles and they have decided to do something competitive about it to offer superior safety without a decrease in performance;
3) or, this is just a cosmetic Band-Aid that won't help a bit, I mean look they haven't increased the length of the keel, and see how small the tail is, it won't provide any more help in tumbles than could have been provided by properly designed wing tips;
4) or, rigid wing gliders (well, the AIR ATOS - V but not the Aeros Phantom) have tails and that seemed to stop their tucks and tumbles (almost), but of course the tails were bigger, were set at an angle, and came with keel extensions, and besides rigid wings have less sweep than flex wings.
What does the Aeros factory say?
