Combined release and bridle

Evgeniya Laritskaya brought a Ukrainian (Aeros) mouth release with her from Siberia to Quest. We combined it with one of my bridles and small barrel releases (and weak link) to create a release that allowed the pilot to immediately let go if there was a problem. The system had to work well with the aerotow line that ended in a carabineer (or a ring) so that was the point of the bridle. The barrel release was  a secondary backup. Of course, with the weaklink now to one side, it was easy to hook the carabineer to the bridle.

The Aeros mouth release is connected to the tow loop on the harness on the pilot's right side by a short red Dacron line that goes to a  quick link that allows for easy attachment to the harness's tow loop. Quick ties tie the cable from the mouth release to the Dacron line in addition to it being tied at its end to the release.

The thin Spectra bridle is attached to the mouth release and then at the other end through a loop of Cortland Greenspot Dacron 130 lb test line weaklink to the secondary barrel release. The barrel release webbing is just looped through the left land harness tow loop. The thin red line on the left side of the harness is not part of the bridle and release system.

This setup allows the pilot to release from the aerotow line by simply opening her mouth and she doesn't have to take her hand off the base tube to pull the barrel release. This comes in handy in the first few seconds of the tow when rolling on the cart, and if there is a "lock out" down low.

While the barrel and bridle can be easily stowed away after release in the provided pockets, it is more difficult to stow away the mouth release. Although it looks like there is a special pocket for it on the Aeros harness.
