You'll no doubt find much more comprehensive coverage of the day in the blogs above as my experience was limited on this day as I didn't get high enough in the start circle and went down early. I really let down the team today (and $1,900 is on the line) and I feel quite bad about that.
The task was a dog leg to the northwest. With a turnpoint to the northwest of La Belle. The goal was 139 km out just west of the small town of Duette and at the edge of Tampa airspace. There was a forecast of some cu's but many showed up by launch time at 1 PM.
We called start times at 1:30 PM through 2:15 PM in fifteen minute increments as the winds were dying down.
We sent the sport class and rigids off first and left it open to them when they crossed the cylinder. Two sport class pilots made it to goal, 53 km to the west of the Florida Ridge.
Dustin won the day with Andre Wolf second, and Jonny Durand third. The pilots are getting back after 8:30 PM, so I don't have results yet.
It looked like another great flying day in southern Florida with strong winds and fluffy cu's every where. Glen Volk got airsick and Zippy was hanging with him unaware that Glen couldn't see any more. Glen and Zippy went down before the goal.
