World Record Encampment

Room for Two More Participants-
As reported on regularly by Davis here in the Oz Report, weather and logistics for the 2009 WRE are looking very good. The entire US Worlds team will be flying for records, along with several other promising pilots and a couple of sailplane pilots.
As in recent years, the field of participants will be kept relatively small. This allows for towing resources, along with coaching in weather and strategic matters, to be dedicated to a select field of pilots. Record potential is thereby maximized. As such, we would like to limit the regular daily HG field to 10 pilots. There is room for two more participants within this arrangement, which will also allow for a couple of perennial regional pilots to come join us a weekend or two.
If you're up for it, and would like to rub shoulders with an elite group of world class pilots, please contact Gary Osoba right away: <wosoba> You need not be a top competition pilot to participate, but there is no room for someone who will not be serious about studying what is involved and serious about following through on instructions that impact pilot safety and enjoyment in this extreme environment. Many past participants have eclipsed their personal best distance flights by following recommendations, and have learned much from the experience. Preference will be given to individuals who are easy to work with, know how to receive help and direction (unless they are already experts), and will fit in well with the friendly, informal atmosphere.
Dates, as noted in the Oz Report calendar, are July 13th to August 5th. Participants who are selected pay a single entry fee and are free to fly any or all times during the event. They may come and go as they please, and all towing is inclusive.
The Zapata WRE continues to be the premier event of its kind in the world. No other locality or event has produced the number or caliber of distance world records for class after class that the WRE has. This should be an outstanding year for the selected participants.
