The 2009 Hang Gliding Worlds, the US team
Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
While the US didn't have much of a chance for third place, we (they) had a good
chance for fourth, and a zig here instead of a zag there would have done it. We
were eighteen points out of fourth place out of over 13,000 points.
I was no help at all. If either I, Jeff Shapiro, or Zippy had been two to four
minutes faster on the second to last day, if Jeff O'Brien had made goal on the
last day, or even gone a little further, if O'Brien had stayed out of the no fly
zone, if I hadn't distracted Zippy and he would have stayed with us on the
second to last day. That's all it would have taken.
This is the best finish by a US team since the World Championship were held in
the Ager, Spain in 1995.
