World Record Encampment, day 2
The forecast for Monday: It looks like a record is possible on Monday.
With light winds on Saturday and maybe Sunday, we'll be doing tasks locally. On Saturday, we did the 25 km triangle two or three times, starting again after it was clear that we were too slow the first few times. I don't think anyone broke any records. The conditions were a bit too light at 1 PM, would have been better later (and were as I came in on the last time on the second try).
Basically to beat the World Record on the 25 km FAI triangle, you've got to do the task in half an hour. Pretty damn difficult. A little more than an hour on the 50 km task.
The air is great, the many pilots here are having a great time. Everyone is getting towed up easily and it is amazing to see almost no winds here.

Yesterdays evening soaring to cloudbase (8500msl) just before the sea breeze was fantastic. Todays soaring had just ridiculously lifty air was almost too good to be true.
I think todays flight will be good enough to make the record books. After you gave me the waypoints to make an FAI triangle this morning, I spent the day doing 4 rounds of the 25km triangle. So far, Flychart shows my 3rd go-around was 27-28 minutes around. I think the current record is just under 30 minutes.
There seems to be as much lift as there is non-lift and its not like that where I grew up! Zapata is ridiculous!

Zapata Rules! On Friday I finally got leave the ground around 7:00 PM for my first flight in Zapata. Awesome big smooth thermals, climbing up to cloudbase as the sea breeze started to hit. Short, but so sweet!
