World Record Encampment, new world record
BJ Herring set a new rigid wing (Class 5 and Class 2) world record for the 25 km FAI triangle at 54.63 km/h. This surpasses my record at 50.4 km/h set at Wallaby Ranch in 2001 and the flex wing record of 50.81 km/h set by Tomas Suchanek in Australia in 2000.
On his third attempt he completed the task in 27:34 minutes. He made six turns and every one of them was a waste of time as he had an extra thousand feet when he got back to Zapata.
You can view the track log on an online map, in Google Earth, or download the IGC file.
