SEATTLE -- The paraglider who crashed into tall trees on Tiger Mountain earlier this week said he thought he was going to die as he dangled high in the treetops.

"The air can play tricks on you and I was a little bit low in a position I should not have been in," said Gene Beaver.

Strong, unpredictable winds landed Beaver in the trees on the side of Tiger Mountain with his paraglider wrapped up in the limbs on Tuesday.

"You catch a thermal and your front end of your glider just kind of curls under, and it's called a 'frontal collapse.' And the next thing you know, you're heading down," he said.

The plunge left Beaver with eight broken ribs, a cut on his liver, a bruised kidney and a broken shoulder.
