Big Spring US Nationals
There were a few weaklink breaks at the Big Spring meet right after pilots came out of the cart. I had one. I believe that the major reason for the weaklinks was the pilots had set the back cradle too high and this made the gliders "stick" on to long and then come up abruptly. I almost always lower my cart to the proper angle, but in this case it was one rung up and I just let it go. I like to have the cart set to one rung up (Bobby Bailey design).
David suggests that if pilots have low weak link breaks, that they pull in right away, aim to the left or right to land off the pavement and away from the prop wash, and do not flare but do a run in landing to keep the glider's nose down so that it won't be affected by the prop wash.
