Cover Girl

Corinna was surprised to find herself on the latest cover of the USHPA hang gliding and paragliding magazine, pictured in her hang glider with her sponsor's decals on her helmet prominently displayed. This got her thinking about why she had never been (alone) on the cover of the DHV magazine.

Seems like I'm on the cover of the USHPA magazine this month. Funny, I didn't know about that.
But there is a nice little ironic background story. Even though I have four women's world championship titles and I have available many photos taken by professional photographers that the DHV could get for free from my sponsors, they have never had me on the DHV magazine cover on my own, let alone in my hang glider!
After the Monte Cucco Worlds in 2008, I was set to be the DHV magazine cover girl, but then I had another clash with the DHV at the German Open in Berlin a few weeks later about their sprog measuring methods. The DHV suddenly changed the cover photo and now the whole German women's team was on the cover of the DHV magazine. In addition, my sponsor's, Red Bull, logo was not so nicely covered with the German flag.
So now I'm very happy to be on the cover of the US magazine, even though I didn't know about it! I hope they can send me an copy?
DHV apparently didn't have a problem putting the portrait of Paragliding World Cup Winner Achim Joos on the cover of DHV magazine in 2003, and I was super happy to see that. He did a great job there and they had a fantastic team! Great for him and his sponsors.
I won the Women's Worlds in 2004 and desperately hoped for the cover. When I won in 2006, I even asked them if they wanted some great shots for the cover, as I had done quite a few sessions with pro-photographers. Instead I got just a tiny picture of me at the bottom of the page.
Then last year, it was kind of already decided that they would print a portrait of me with the trophy (and Red Bull Cap and Adidas shirt). The they changed their mind after the German Open and chose a team photo instead, nicely hiding the Red Bull logo.
I can just say thanks to the very liberal, open minded guys from your USHPA magazine for having me on the cover, even though I've beaten your local hero, Kari Castle a few times (and she has beaten me as well a few times; for most of my hang gliding life she was my inspiration to try harder and become better). It is an honor for me and nourishes my trust in worldwide freedom without prejudice.
