The 2009 Santa Cruz Flats Race
Dustin has paved the runways. There is not longer any dust when you take off. The tugs land on the dirt but taxi up onto the asphalt. Gravel in the setup area. Two runways.
Beautiful clouds in the distance, later followed by a gust front around 6 PM. You had about an hour's warning on that. We left our gliders up and tied down.
Thirty five pilots approximately. Two Brazilians. A few LA area pilots. It looks like a great time.
Took off at 4 PM. The air was so sweet. Climbed to 6,000' (from 1,330'). Cloud base was probably 12,000'. No need to climb that high on a day just to look around. Light winds out of the Northwest. Looks like that tomorrow also. Maybe clouds. CB at 12,000'.
