What are the goals of the Competition Workgroup proposal?
The
CWG/LMR proposal starts off with this statement:
The USHPA recognizes the many benefits of hang gliding and
paragliding competitions in the United States. These include community and
public relations, site retention, marketing our sports, camaraderie among pilots
as well as a means to select a U.S. Team to compete internationally.
This is about as close as it ever comes to stating what the goals of
the proposed revisions of the competition program are. It never goes into how
the proposed changes would help the USHPA achieve whatever goals it has. What goals can we tease out of the statement above? More competitions? More attendance at competitions? More widespread geographic locations for competitions? Don't we need a much better definition of the purpose, goals, objectives and
tasks needed to reach those objectives? How can we know whether we are
succeeding or not, if we don't have such a plan? Sometimes I think the only goal of the
CWG/LMR proposal
is to harass the competition pilots. They've succeeded in that, for sure.
