Who "owns" and pays for the US competition program?
The competition pilots (anyone who enters a USHPA sanctioned
competition), through their entry fees, pay 100% of the costs of the US
competition program. The USHPA and the USHPA members (not including competition
pilots) pay zero dollars to support the US competition program. The competition
is totally self supporting and totally paid for by the participants in the
program. The USHPA is the insurance agent for the participants and for the competition
program. The participants pay their insurance agent, the USHPA, a fee for their
insurance and for the event insurance. The participants pay the USHPA to handle
a minimal amount of paper work which signifies that they have a "sanctioned"
competition. The USHPA makes a profit from the competition program. The competition pilots (again, anyone who participates in a USHPA sanctioned
competition) are paying all the bills. It is their competition program. It does
not belong to anyone else but them. It is for their benefit. And they, and only
they, have the right to determine how that program is managed. What did BB King say:
As long as I'm payin' the bills woman, I'm payin' the cost to be
the boss
Currently, we (the competition pilots, see above for definition,
thereof) have a situation where our insurance agent, the USHPA, is trying to
tell us how to run our competition program. The BOD members of our insurance
agent, the USHPA, who for the most part have little to no experience in our
competition program (and admit as much), are being asked to make decisions about
how the program should be run. This is craziness. I say, if the insurance agent, the USHPA, wants to have their own competition
program, let them create a separate program, pay for it, and essentially leave
us alone. We are tired of paying unreasonable dues to them and tired of their
interference in matters that should not be of a concern to them. I have submitted a proposal that the Chairman of the Competition Committee
(co-Chairmen actually) be elected by the competition pilots and that only
competition pilots be appointed by the chairmen to be members of the Competition
Committee. This will put the governance of the competition program in its
rightful hands. The USHPA should serve their members, not dictate to them.
