US Competition Program - let's talk dollars and some sense
How much money do the competition pilots put into the US
Competition Program each year?
In 2009:
East Coast Championship, 34 pilots, $450 each = $15,300
Rob Kells Memorial, 40 pilots, $575 each, = $23,000
Flytec Race and Rally, 32 pilots, $575 each = $18,400
Big Spring US Nationals, 33 pilots, $575 each = $18,975
Santa Cruz Flats Race, 36 pilots, $575 each = $20,700
Total = $96,375
How much did the USHPA put into NAA dues, which may or may not allow the USHPA
to decide who flies in the Worlds: $8000-$10,000.
So why is that some on the USHPA BOD think that by paying this amount to the NAA,
an amount that equals approximately ten percent of what the US hang glider
pilots pay for the US competition program, that they have the right to dictate
to the competition pilots how to run their competition program?
Oh, and I'm only talking about the money that the competition hang glider pilots
put into the competition program. The relative amount of USHPA NAA dues goes
down to five percent when we include the paraglider pilots. Whose tail is wagging whose dog here?
