LOS HOMBRES PAJARO HICIERON DELIRAR A CANOA

Un espectáculo de acrobacias, velocidad e intensa emoción fue el que vivió
Canoa, Manabí, con el desarrollo del Campeonato Internacional de ALAS DELTA
"Hombres Pájaro 2009", organizado por el club de Alas Delta de Guayaquil, "Monkey´s
Ranch Club".

La emoción se centró en las carreras de velocidad pura en planeo,
disputadas en un circuito de 53 km entre las ciudades de Canoa y San Vicente,
donde algunos de los mejores pilotos del mundo desarrollaban altas velocidades,
volando "ala con ala". El público seguía la acción desde "LZ" o la zona de
aterrizaje, en el sector de la playa Wonderland, mientras la Organización
amplificaba por parlante los reportes radiales de un piloto "reportero del aire"
que seguía de cerca todo el curso de la carrera.

Luego de las carreras, los pilotos regresaban al aterrizaje, donde los esperaba
una emocionada multitud que los ovacionaba, mientras ellos devolvían los
aplausos con shows acrobáticos. Loopings (giros verticales) dobles, wing overs y
caídas en picada. En los vuelos rasantes, los organizadores cortaban la música
para que el público pueda escuchar el silbido impresionante del ala delta,
volando a casi 130 km por hora, a escasos 2 metros de altura, como verdaderas
saetas.

El mejor de los pilotos volvió a ser la estrella profesional Dustin Martin, de
Estados Unidos, ganando las carreras de Canoa por 4to año consecutivo.

Dentro del programa se destacó el mejor aterrizaje, en el piloto colombiano
Nicolás Glennon, quien hizo una aproximación perfecta para posarse suavemente en
el reducido blanco de aterrizaje, recibiendo una ovación del público. Este
piloto cuenta con apenas 17 años de edad.

También la piloto Melania Larenas, de Quito, hizo historia al convertirse en la
primera mujer ecuatoriana en volar un ala delta, acumulando 5 horas de vuelo,
dentro del programa de Hombres Pájaro 2009. Durante la premiación, la piloto
recibió su bautizo aéreo, de los pilotos Dustin Martin y Raúl Guerra, quienes le
asignaron el nombre simbólico de "correcaminos". Luego, siguiendo una tradición
de los pilotos, la untaron con miel y la llenaron de plumas.

Ya en la noche llegó el momento de la celebración y clausura. Con un grupo de
música nacional, la entrega de premios, para luego dar lugar a los fuegos
pirotécnicos y a "la cometa loca". Ya en el cierre, un grupo de música reggae
despidió a los "Hombres pájaro" quienes este año cerraron su participación (la
quinta consecutiva en Ecuador) con total éxito.

BIRD MEN IN CANOA

A delirious spectacle of acrobatics, speed and intense emotion took place in
Canoa, Manabi, with the development of the International Championship of ALAS
DELTA "Birdmen 2009", organized by the Delta Wing Club de Guayaquil, "Monkey's
Ranch Club."

The excitement was focused on pure speed racing, run in a circuit of 53 km
between the cities of Canoa and San Vicente, where some of the best pilots in
the developed world, were racing at high speed, flying "wingtip to wingtip." The
audience followed the action from "LZ" or the landing zone at the beach at the
Hotel Wonderland, while the organization amplified by reporting the radio
reports of a pilot air reporter who followed closely throughout the course of
the race.

After the races, the pilots came to land at the beach, where an excited crowd
waiting with an ovation, and they returned the applause with acrobatic shows.
Loops (turns vertical) double, wing overs and plunges. During the low-flying,
organizers cut the music so that the public can hear the whistle sounds of
impressive hang gliding, flying at almost 130 km per hour, just two meters above
the beach, like real arrows.

The best of the pilots returned from previous years including professional star
Dustin Martin, U.S., who has been winning races at Canoa for four years running.

The best landing was by Nicholas Montoya Glennon, who made a perfect approach to
land softly on the small landing target, receiving a standing ovation. This
pilot is only 17 years old.

Also the pilot Melania Larenas, from Quito, made history by becoming the first
Ecuadorian woman to fly a hang glider (taking her first solo flight on
Thursday), flying five hours total during the program of Birdmen 2009. During
the awards, she received her baptism from pilots Dustin Martin and Raul Guerra,
who was assigned her the symbolic name of "roadrunner". Then, following a
tradition of pilots, they smeared her with honey filled with feathers.

The program concluded with a group playing local music, the awards ceremony, and
then fireworks as "kite crazy." In the end, a reggae band closed out the program
of the "bird men" who ended their participation this year (the fifth row in
Ecuador) with complete success.
