One result from the competition survey
Andrew Vanis is working on the final document of the results of
his survey
One result stands out for me:
Do not yet feel ready for competition | 42 |
I don't want to compete | 38 |
No time | 21 |
No comps close to my home | 20 |
Can't afford it | 16 |
Don't know how to learn about it | 12 |
No foot launch competitions (or too few) | 11 |
I feel that the competition pilots are elitists | 7 |
Don't like the National Team Selection System | 1 |
This result from the pilots who haven't competed (the target
audience for the USHPA Competition Workgroup) shows rather dramatically that the
current configuration of the NTSS is not the reason people are not competing,
but this appears to be the main feature of the USHPA Competition Program that the
Competition Workgroup is trying to change. They are working on the area
that makes the least difference.
I have heard that they have changed their focus toward the biggest issue shown
here, getting pilots who haven't tried competition into competitions that can
cater to them. We'll see if that if fact is true.
