USHPA screws the pooch
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/screw_the_pooch
If you go here,
you'll notice that the USHPA BOD is scheduled for the 12th through the 14th. It wasn't always
that way. In fact until Monday, the BOD meeting was scheduled for Friday and
Saturday, November 13th and 14th. This is the normal schedule for a BOD meeting.
The EC meets on Thursday and the BOD meets on Friday and Saturday.
Now this wouldn't be a problem, and it is great to have the extra time to
discuss complicated issues, but the problem is that a number of us made plane
reservations in advance based on the USHPA calendar for the meeting, and the
fact that USHPA BOD meeting are always Friday and Saturday.
So now we are required to buy an additional plane ticket and book another night
in the hotel to attend the meeting. This is damn costly. I am not a BOD member.
I am going to the meeting to defend the USHPA competition program against an
unprecedented attack. It is costing me $600 in travel expenses to do this. This
totally sucks. Here is the email I sent on Monday:

Subject: I would appreciate re-imbursement for the USHPA screw up.
Hi Lisa and Paul,
As has been pointed out the USHPA web site stated (until today) that the USHPA BOD meeting was the 13th and 14th of November. I and others (Jamie Shelden and Steve Kroop, for sure, but there may be others) relied on that information to purchase plane tickets in advance to Austin. Some of us are coming to the USHPA BOD meeting specifically to discuss the issues of competition.
On Sunday morning I found out totally by accident that the BOD meeting is now scheduled for Thursday (unlike past practices) and that the items that we are most interested will be discussed in that meeting.
I feel totally screwed by the USHPA. This is extremely unfair. I have had to cancel my ticket from Ontario to Austin. I have had to purchase a new ticket for $274. I have had to book an additional night in a hotel, in order to arrive in time for the meetings.
I respectively request that the USHPA reimburse this USHPA member for his additional costs that are due solely to a screw up on the part of the USHPA.
You must agree that this appears to be a deliberate effort on the part of the USHPA to silence discussion at the BOD meeting about a controversial issue. I don't mean that it is, only that it appears to be.
Respectively,
Davis Straub
