Mark Gibson - on the way to recovery
Sascha Gibson, Gibbo's phone number 832-4342642,
<flytiburon> writes:
I suppose by now you have all heard Gibbo had an accident last
Sunday. Last Sunday afternoon, Gibbo, Greg, and Doc, all flew from the airport
north to Lake Conroe, under a 1,000 foot cloud base. Upon the arrival at the
Conroe Airport skies were blue with unlimited visibility. Gibbo, Greg, and Doc
all landed at the grass strip at Lake Conroe. The standard BSing at the airport
took place. The three departed uneventfully, Greg headed directly back to May Airport, Doc
and Gibbo decided to head north to make the bridge turn point. About half way
down the lake Doc peeled off to the west to buzz his friend's condo on the lake.
Gibbo continued on to the north end of the lake, climbing high in the smooth,
glassy air, making the bridge turn point before heading south. As expected, over the south end of Lake Conroe, the cloud base dropped back down
to a 1,000 feet. Gibbo dropped down to 500 feet and continued flying south
towards May Airport. Over Magnolia, near his house, cloud base dropped all the
way to the ground, so Gibbo turned around north to find a safe place to land. On the north side of Magnolia there is a substantial size parking lot, Gibbo
chose to do a low pass before landing, unforseen to him was a small power line
which he struck, which immediately caused impact with the ground, not
remembering anything after that, but, lucky enough to crash in front of a fire
station. He was immediately attended to by the fire crew. Unknown to him a small bone fragment from his factured tib/fib traveled
into his main artery of the heart, causing him to have a heart attack. His was
transported to the hospital where he underwent open heart surgery to remove the
bone fragment and repair his ruptured aorta, saving his life. He is now recovering in the hospital and expects to make a full recovery and be
back at work ASAP.
