2010 Forbes Flatlands
The sun came out, the registration desk opened up, the projector
for the computer with the weather forecast and task showed up, Jamie Shelden
showed up to help with registration, the Americans are lagging behind, on their
way to Forbes, and we all went out to the airfield for a real practice day,
after a day of rain and clouds.
The airfield was overrun with Dragonflies and we had no problem getting pulled
up through the green grass with very mellow tows into perfectly wonderful
thermals that took us to cloud base at a little over 5,000' (around 2 PM). No
need to worry about the height limit at 14,000'.
The ten mph wind out of the west made for upwind tasks to get used to the
gliders and a period to shake off the cobwebs. Gosh, the temperatures were nice
in the tow paddock, and in the air, of course.
We're back in Forbes and everyone is happy to be here. Tonight the barbeque and
pilot welcome dinner and address, and tomorrow we begin the competition.
