Not Hearing from the USHPA
If you received an email from Mike Haley, co-Chairman of the USHPA
Competition Committee, as I have, you might see it ending with this:
Mike Haley
FOR INTERNAL BOARD USE ONLY.
Copyright 2009
Now, obviously, I'm not a member of the USHPA BOD, so receiving
such an email means that Mike has already violated his own warning by sending it
to me. I have not violated the copyright notice that Mike uses here as I am operating
as a news organization and
fair use
applies to what I have done here. The question arises why is the USHPA BOD not sharing their internal messages
with the USHPA membership? Don't the members have a right to know what is going
on with the USHPA BOD when it is conducting official business? Wouldn't that be
the case if the board was meeting in meat space? Wouldn't it be a good idea if the USHPA members could sign up to a list to
receive internal USHPA BOD emails? I don't mean to necessarily mean that they
should be involved in all the internal discussions of the USHPA, but shouldn't
they be at least allowed to listen in? Mike Haley is a BOD member, but you didn't vote him in. He was elected by the
BOD as a BOD member at large. As I reported earlier the Competition Committee is carrying out a series of
votes on the proposed Competition Sanction Manual something that would be of
interest to competition pilots. But those pilots don't get the opportunity to
see what the committee (essentially the whole USHPA BOD) is voting on. Wouldn't
it be nice if they could?
