Mark Gaskill, the USHPA Vice President, sent out an enthusiastic
email message to USHPA members on February 3rd. You'll find it

Mark writes:

...The Board, through the Competition Committee (CC), organized a
competition symposium in Salt Lake City, UT – January 8 -10. This symposium
brought together thirteen experts to represent various aspects of the
competition arena. The goal of this symposium was to set the stage for greater
competition opportunities for a broader range of USHPA membership. The symposium
consisted of two and half days of intensive work. The resulting recommendations
will be presented to the CC and the full Board of Directors at the next meeting
in March, also to be held in Salt Lake City.

I would like to present a brief summary of accomplishments in advance of this
next Board meeting.

Just to be clear, the existing competition program was not
discussed at this symposium, only plans for "open distance," aerobatic, and
local competitions. The framework for existing competitions is being discussed
in competition committee sub committees, in the competition committee and with
the full BOD by email now.

Mark doesn't provide enough details to let us know what is actually happening.
From emails I received soliciting my input I see that it is going to be rather
difficult to come up with a standard means of scoring open distance competitions
that are comparable nationally (so that they can have a national ranking
system).

Perhaps more details will be available before the spring BOD meeting so that the
USHPA membership can have input to their regional directors before the voting
begins.

I hope that these articles have continued a "conversation" and encouraged
communication between the USHPA and its membership.
