By mounting a pair of GoPro HD cameras side-by-side, vertically on the keel of
my T2C I was able to capture a truly immersive video experience of flight for a
very nominal cost. The actual field of view is over 180 degrees wide and about
130 degrees tall. I rendered the 8 1/2-minute long video into 1500 x 960 pixels
at a high bit rate.
The flight was on Monday and took me to cloudbase at Sylmar. I have it hosted in
Vimeo and anyone who joins (it's free) can download the 620MB video file and
play it back in very high resolution. The closer the viewer is to the monitor,
the more 3D it appears. Somehow, my cameras got pushed a few degree out of
alignment while inside my harness, driving the rain damaged fire road to launch.
In order to align each video track correctly the video has a vertical black bar
nearly dead center which creates a window pane effect that is actually not
unpleasant.
