In Germany we have the National Cross Country Championship which is much more
popular than the German Open "closed" Championship. In 2007 we had about 17,000
flights submitted, in 2008, 35,000 and in 2009, +50,000 flights of hang glider
and paraglider pilots. 1,277 pilots have submitted flights for the 2010 season
so far.

I have promoted on-line contests for years here at the Oz Report
and continue to promote it with the USHPA (to no avail).
