Checking out Luling, Texas
Belinda and I checked out the proposed airfield for the "Texas Single Surface Shoot Out" (or something like that) that Joel Froehlich
wants to put on on Monday, May 24th to Saturday, May 29th. It looks like a very
feasible location with a paved runway, lots of grass (kind of rough), many open
directions for towing, very little air traffic, a very junky set of hangars, no
other buildings. There is a very nice small town nearby,
Luling, Texas, where
we partook in lunch at the
City Market,
which serves outstanding brisket and ribs.
There are plenty of local services, see
here and nice places to
stay, like the
River Bend
RV Park or the Carefree Inn with High Speed Internet I'm working with Joel now as he organizes the meet, as a first time meet
organizer (he lives and works in San Antonio and has two Dragonflies). I'll be
helping him out so that everything is taken care of. The meet looks like it will
be very inexpensive and a great place for pilots new to competition to come and
get a taste. I'll have a lot more to say later about this.
