Midwest HG Comp 2010 Thu. May 27th, 2010 thru Sun. May 30th, 2010 The 1st comp in the Chicago area since 1993. Weve had big cross countries in
this date range, and hope for good weather for a generation of area pilots that
havent seen a comp. We are 75 minutes south of Chicago with potentially great
flying in most wind conditions Meet Purpose To have a safe, fair and fun hang gliding competition. We hope to draw a lot of
new pilots into the competition family and have the meet in the best of the
seasons flying conditions. . We plan a cross country competition where there
will be "race to goal" or "open distance" tasks called, as the weather permits.
Education to elevate pilot skills is a key principal. Our plan for the comp is to start small. Our proposal is for a twenty pilot
field which we believe that we can get up reasonably with our resources. If
there is really big interest we would attempt to bring in outside launch gear
and pilots. We'd like to think it would be an ongoing effort, but you have to
start somewhere. We will support Open, Sport and Rigid divisions in scoring. There are some pilots flying on 'the circuit' who have ties here along with some
regional guys who have done significant competition whom we hope to have fly in
the comp, so we hope for a good mix. This comp is weekend pilot friendly. We are flying Thursday through Sunday with
a possible makeup day on the holiday Monday (May 31). Pilots do not have to take
a week off work. We plan to have seminars and tasks in the weeks leading up to the comp to
educate pilots in GPS usage and other task oriented skills. Requirements H3 with AT and Turbulence Have aerotowed their current glider 10 times. Helmet and parachute. GPS with downloadable tracklogs. (Cables and software needed if other than
Garmin or Flytec) Fees $175.00 if paid prior to May 15th. $225.00 if after May 15th. $100.00 will be considered a registration with balance due before meet starts Tow fees are not included and will be paid by pilots by the close of each day. Cancellation date of May 15th (fees refunded) if there is a shortfall in paid
participants There will be an awards dinner at the conclusion of the competition and
commemorative T-shirts. Website (under construction)
