At the last Plenary, the delegates changed the rules so that only
six Sport Class pilots are required for the competition to be recognized by CIVL
This is reduction from fifteen pilots which are required for the open class
competitions.

Of course, all six Sport Class pilot have to have FAI Licenses, a requirement
that will be hard to meet in the US at least, where separate purchase of the FAI
Sporting License is required of USHPA members. Also, it seems that CIVL really
doesn't do anything for Sport Class pilots (no Sport Class world ranking for
example). So exactly why would this interest Sport Class pilots.

John Aldridge, the new CIVL president, writes:

As Sport Class has existed for a couple of years now I had assumed
that we already had a facility in the WPRS to display rankings in Sport Class
once the first valid comp results came in. That is not the case and we are
currently considering the best way to deal with this sub-class – I am optimistic
this will be resolved before any comps get validated.
