Help Save the Williams Peak site in Colorado
http://ozreport.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19545
The US Forest Service has developed a proposal to build a new
Marina at Green Mountain Reservoir near our primary landing area at Williams
Peak, one of our cherished mountain sites in Colorado. The proposal includes the
placement of power lines that will interfere with hang glider and paraglider
landings along the shore of Green Mountain Reservoir. Specifically, the proposal
includes 40 foot tall power lines to be installed on Hwy 9 directly along side
the LZ that will present a hazard to paraglider and hang glider pilots crossing
the Highway to make an approach to the LZ. The proposal is currently open for
public comment and you can read more at:

We're initiating a letter writing campaign during this "open for public comment"
period addressing our specific concerns for the hazards that the proposed power
lines present to our flight operations. The safety issue is paramount. The
consequences of striking them could be fatal. Moreover, the consequences of a
blown landing or landing out near the water that pilots may inadvertently do to
avoid the power lines can also be perilous. I need your help in responding to
this issue. Please help us by contributing a letter to the Forest Service about
this proposal.
