Glider Rider Vs. Remora racks

It's good to see a new take on a front rack. I designed the
original front rack in 1987, known as the Gliderider. It's been in continuous
production since then and is distributed worldwide by Firebird UK. Http://www.turfhouse.com/acatalog/copy_of_Roof_Racks_and_supports.html The present version folds completely and will fit in the glider bag for travel
abroad. Height adjustment is made with twist and lock tubing. Padding is hard
wearing neoprene. Protective covers are provided for the bases when the rack is
not in use. The UK price is about £85 or $125 excluding taxes.

The front rack I do is much more substantial than the Glider Rider
(the Glider Rider short comings are the reason the Remora rack was developed). My front rack is built from schedule 40 (1/8" wall thickness) that tuna towers
for boats are built of. There is approximately 11 to 12 degrees of inward cant
on the vertical legs for sideways stability. There are 4 suction cups instead of 2 that are about an inch larger in diameter
that have much more holding power. Lastly the security lines add a little
stability as well as making it much easier to tie down gliders. I have been building and developing the remora rack over the last 6 years. These
racks are designed as racks that can be used as a normal rack that can be broken
down for travel as opposed to very light travel racks that sort of work (ie
glider rider). I also have built straight bars for the roof for difficult to install cars that
work for travel also. There is a front version that has a straight bar on top
that allows the vertical legs to be on hoods that need very narrow spacing. The Remora rack can be moved from vehicle to vehicle easily so I have sold quite
a few to pilots that plan on changing vehicles so they don't end up with a
permanent rack that doesn't fit the new one.
