Rob Kells Competition - Monday
I don't ever recall being in Florida for weather like this. This
is the dry season and it rained almost all day Sunday. The forecast for Monday
is for more rain. The rain wasn't as heavy as on Sunday as on Saturday when the
squall line came through, but has rained and rained and rained. I must be in the
swamp.
The satellite photos have been amazing, with a high thin cloud cover spread all
over the state and up into Georgia. The National forecast for Sunday showed a
front running east/west on the Georgia/Florida border and another east/west on
running between Keywest and Havana. Florida was sandwiched in between them.
There is a disturbance out in the Gulf of Mexico (low pressure) spiraling
moisture our way, which adds to the misery. The forecast is for no rain and
sunshine on Tuesday and maybe through the rest of the week.
On Monday morning we have a chance to fly. Cloud base is 900' at 10:30 AM. The
RUC and NAM are way under calling the forecasted surface temperature relative to
the NWS local forecast (by 5-7 degrees). The winds could be pretty strong. Light
on the ground now. We are getting ready.
