Texas Single Surface Shootout - 2nd day
It was dark again in the morning with low cu's, but the satellite
showed heavy overcast over us and a large area around us. There was rain to our
south west. The forecast was for a 50% chance of shower. The NAM, GFS, and RUC
models were calling for none to light lift. Joel called the task off at around 12:30. Then at 3 PM the sky opened up in
Luling, a few miles south of the Carter Memorial Airfield, and the sky was full
of nice flat bottoms cu's. Looks like we called it too early. We are here: It was just yesterday that Joel said that they get great flights here late in
the afternoon and it was just yesterday that we started flying just before 4 PM.
