The USHPA quickly corrects an error
When the USHPA NTSS competition rules were rewritten, due to the
fact that redlined documents weren't used (redline documents are ones that start
with the original document and the text being taken out is marked with a redline
through the text) a vital portion of the existing NTSS system was left out.
Steve Kroop took responsibility for making the specific changes to the NTSS
point allocation portion of the new document (which replaced the USHPA
Competition Rulebook), but unfortunately he was not given the option of working
from the original and therefore couldn't do a redline document. Of course I was
also responsible is I did not see the error either when I reviewed the work.
When it was pointed out to Steve that the new rulebook had left off a vital part
of the NTSS system Steve agreed immediately that he had inadvertently left it
off and asked for it to be put back in. In the previous version of the rulebook
all hang gliding meets were worth at least a minimum of 300 NTSS points. This
encouraged meet organizers to put on meets and get USHPA sanctioning knowing
that they have some NTSS points to attract pilots to come to their meets.
When David Glover, who noticed this issue at the East Coast Championships, where
he was the meet director, contacted Steve about this problem, Steve immediately
contacted Mike Haley, chairman of the Competition Committee, stating that he, Steve, had inadvertently left off this
provision, and asked Nike to ask the EC to put it back in. Mike went forward
with that and within two weeks the problem was fixed.
Thanks to all involved.
