You may recall
this article that I
wrote about dealing with the press. It followed
this accident at
Quest Air. The reporters, Dan Criswell (camera man) and Drew Petrimoulx
(reporter) from WFTV in Orlando, came out to Quest Air because they had been
listening on the scanner and heard about the accident. Mitch Shipley had called
911 right after he got to Shannon and she was soon airlifted out to the Orlando
Regional Medical Center after being stabilized by the local EMS crew out of the
Groveland fire department about a mile away.

It is apparently the case that another flight park owner (I won't say who, and I
know a good number of them) has a
very clever way around this problem of inadvertently alerting the news media
whenever there is an accident that requires emergency attention. Instead of
contacting the dispatcher through a 911 call he drives to the local fire station
and personally summons emergency help (couldn't he just phone them?). This puts
the cone of media silence around the flight park.
