2010 European Championships
They are apparently one women short of what they need to have a
valid new European Women's Champion crowned at this upcoming (July 10th through
24th) European Hang Gliding Championships. I hear that the flying has been great
there recently. It seems that the DHV is unwilling to let one women fly for the team to get the
total count at the Europeans up to eight women pilots. This is a 6+2 meet, with
six open and two women slots for each team. Corinna has one of the open German
slots. The DHV could send two women pilots in addition, (or at least one) but
the DHV refuses to do so, even though Monique is willing to go and willing to
pay her own way. The DHV is saying that they don't think that it is a good idea of crown a
European Women's Champion if only eight competitors compete for the title
(although this is the CIVL minimum). This means that Corinna would continue as
the reigning European Women's Champion. DHV's stance means that the women pilots who have committed to the European
Championship don't have a chance to become the new Europeans Women's Champion.
Check out how well they are doing at the Spanish Nationals below. When I hear these things I am ever so glad that the USHPA says out of
competition as much as it does. Politics only makes things worse. The European's
organizer says that the NAC for each country has to tell him who is eligible to
come. The same is true for us, but the USHPA just does what the Rulebook says
and there is no room to maneuver.
