Hang gliders (and gliders) that are equipped with trackers which
send their location at time intervals over SMS use a certain message format. If
an SMS message is sent to the phone on which ReliRescue is installed (and
enabled), it can snoop these messages and aggregate the messages in a way that
you could see the location of all the tracking devices.
If you are a competition organizer, you could see/track where everybody is.
Trackers that use the supported format are at this site
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/gps-tracker-with-sms-message/.
The idea is that the pilots would not have phones with ReliRescue
working on them, but these dedicated tracing devices. The meet organizer or
retrieve team would have a phone with ReliRescue running on it and would receive
the messages.
It's in beta test now and up on the ReliRescue list serve, but not on the
official web site linked to above.
