Getting feedback from the Ada County Commissioners
A few days ago I wrote to the County Commissioners for Ada county,
the county that includes Boise, about the RV Park that we are camped at (the
only RV Park in the city). I wrote:
On the River RV Park is a treasure. My wife and I come here each
year to visit Boise and Garden City and ride the Greenbelt. Having been born
(1947) and raised in Boise I very much appreciate having such a lovely spot to
come back to and enjoy the town. Certain things make for a great livable city.
Condos replacing RV Parks is not one of them. There must be a balance. I know that you can charge a higher fee for the RV park. Condos at this time are
a distinctly bad idea. Upgrading the Greenbelt paving is a much better idea. My
family helped build Boise and Ada County (Ralph J Davis men's store in Boise),
Idaho Hardware, my great grandfather's bank before the Depression. I realize that the county needs to increase its income and that means better
value for its property, but the overall value to the community of a RV Park
offsets the merely accounted for income stream from one piece of property. Let's
renegotiate a lease for the RV Park so that it continues here in Boise and
Garden City. Thanks for your consideration.
Less than twenty four hours later I go the following back from
commissioner Sharon Ullman:
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I believe
you have misunderstood our intentions with regard to the On the River RV Park.
We are vacating the park at the end of September so we can clean it up, renovate
it, then reopen it as an RV Park. We have no intention of leasing the entire
facility to an operator for only $50 a year like the previous 20-year lease, and
will not allow visitors to stay permanently, given that this is an RV Park and
not a mobile home park. The fair operation runs as an enterprise fund and does not receive tax dollar
support. The revenue received by the operation of the RV Park will go back into
the fairgrounds facility. It will not be used to pay for general county
expenses. For additional information about the RV Park situation, you are
