I would plasti-dip the carbon fiber skid, but not the other part
of the boot. The material that I use to make the boot is unbelievably resistant
to abrasion. It's nothing like what has been used on harnesses before. Check out
Zippy's harness the next time you see him. After launching from the taxi way at Big Spring, Texas during the US Nationals,
his carbon fiber skid had a hole worn through it from the tarmac but the poly
used for the boot was barely scuffed. Just to give you an idea as to how specialized that material is, Technora, the
clear stuff on the top surface of my Wills Wing T2-144 sail, costs between
$40-50 per square yard. The poly on the boot costs $140 a square yard. I would just reinforce the skid to make it last as long as possible (although it
can be replaced pretty easily and cheaply).
