A new home for the USHPA?

In 2005, Mike Eberle and I spent a couple weeks mostly in Norway
doing some flying and traveling. On our way from Voss to Lillehammer, we passed
through Vagamo, home of the Norwegian national flying center. With generous help
from the Norwegian government, Norwegian pilots were able to develop a great
facility for hosting competitions, instructional clinics and various flying
events. The flying center is located on a parcel large enough for a LZ and there
are mountain launches nearby. The main building had offices, a kitchen and a great room on the main floor.
Upstairs, pilots enjoyed dorm-style rooms where groups of four pilots shared a
room and bath facilities. I don't recall how many beds they had, but it seemed
like a fair number. The kitchen was well-done and capable of pulling off meals
for 50+ pilots. The great room could be used for dining, a class room, parties
or just about anything. In addition to the main building, there were
out-buildings for hang glider storage. I left very impressed with what the Norwegian pilots have accomplished. I'd love
to see something like this in the US.
