Just to let you know that the Canoa Open Hang Gliding "Speed
Gliding" Championship ended up two days ago. We got to race two out of three
tasks but fly every day we where there. The voodoo did not seemed to work on
Dustin, as he, for the 7th time on a row, won the meet.
The first task was nice, but not too fast, with speeds averaging 60-65km/h.
Dustin took only 40 minutes to make the course, while I followed three minutes
behind. Second task was quite tricky, with less wind and difficult conditions
that made impossible to make the whole course without stopping at least two
times.
Again, Dustin won with 51 minutes and I followed with 52.Unfortunately, we did
not get to actually race each other as Dustin took a "special edition" start
gate the first day, and on the second day he got too low on the first leg during
the first start gate and went for the second one.
The top five positions on the meet:
- Dustin Martin - Wills Wing - USA
- Daniel Velez - Wills Wing - Colombia
- Raul Guerra - Moyes - Ecuador
- Fausto Arcos - Wills Wing - Ecuador
- Jelko Loor - Wills Wing - Ecuador
Dustin, eleven Colombians and a bunch of Ecuadorians at Canoa. I did not go to
Guayaquil but I understand that they only had a free flight thing going down
over there. No prize money, but good prize for the first one only: Roundtrip
with company to Galapagos Islands. Worth at least $900 US.
