Petition to the USHPA
http://www.petitionbuzz.com/petitions/ozreport/
We ask that the USHPA President, Executive Committee, and Board of
Directors seriously consider moving the USHPA headquarters from Colorado Springs
to (or near to) a favorable hang gliding and paragliding site. We believe that such a move would be both beneficial to the sport and to the
operations of the USHPA. With the hiring of a new Executive Director who is an
advanced pilot (all five candidates are), we want to have them near a flying
site.
Eighty three signature by Sunday night (before this article went
out). What would seriously consider mean? Set up a Working Group. Write up a set of
criteria. Solicit proposals. Maybe a step toward these things. (See below for
what it means.)

Since the Fall Board Meeting in Bend, Ive been laying the groundwork for
consideration of the office relocation idea. Last week, I called everyone on the
USHPA staff to let them know whats up and discuss how relocating the office
might impact them. A letter went out to the directors, outlining in general
terms the process for studying USHPAs options. The subject of relocating the HQ
was discussed with each of the candidates interviewing for the ED position. My
goal is to complete a study and develop recommendations prior to the Spring
Board Meeting. The relocation subject is on the agenda for the Executive
Committee call this week. Aside from questions about the process and reasonable
concerns about the economics, so far the feedback has been very positive.
Membership input will be an important part of any study we do. Expect to hear
more and have opportunities to share your views through surveys, feedback
through your regional director and hopefully chapter town hall style meetings. Regarding Marks comments on the petition process, I believe he was simply
pointing out what is required for petitions to have a binding effect on USHPA.
Any petition has value as an expression of member/pilot interest, which is the
whole point. Since USHPA is in all likelihood moving forward with a study,
theres no issue here. Lets move forward.
This is great. A show of support from the membership can't hurt.
