With just over 3 weeks to go until the start of the Forbes hang gliding
competition, we are all waiting to see if the rain that has been flooding the
Forbes area (and much of NSW) will continue.
Forbes district areas are bracing themselves this week for more rain, flooding
and road closures.
When the rain started last week, with 111mm falling on 5 days, the farmers were
thrilled that rivers and catchments were full to capacity. But now the rain has
continued they are starting to complain. They are never happy those farmers :)
But things are quite serious because many of the wheat and canola crops have
been damaged and many residents in the surrounding areas (Parkes and Eugowra)
have been evacuated.
So what does this mean for our flying conditions? As long as the rain stops a
week or so beforehand we should be good. Hopefully it will give the ground a
chance to dry out and decrease all the moisture in the air. We will no longer
have the dry dusty paddocks we are used to. It will make for more pleasant setup
and towing conditions I hope AND a much more pleasant place to hang out when
it's not so blisteringly hot so bring your families!!!
".... the river is expected to reach a height of 10m at the Iron Bridge
gauge (near the Apex Riverside Caravan Park) late today, causing moderate
flooding" (from today's newspaper)
