Denial of amendment to exemption 4144 this was the request to
the FAA to allow individuals with a sport pilot license to tow hang gliders. We
are planning to send a letter/email to all USHPA ATPs and AT-rated hang glider
pilots regarding the FAAs denial of our request for the amendment to exemption
4144 and also to remind them that all N-numbered aircraft need to be
re-registered with the FAA this year. Is USHPA ATP rating still required to tow if the tow pilot has an FAA private
pilot certificate and is towing with a light sport aircraft (N-numbered).
General understanding is "no", but apparently there is some confusion about
this, especially in the USHPA office. Needs clarification. Consider removing John Ryan as a HG Instructor Administrator and approving Rod
Mitchell as a HG IA. Discuss the actions against Claude Fiset and Mike Jefferson. Implications of FAA decision on wheels on powered paragliders. Which competition staff members should be permitted to fly during a sanctioned
comp? Meet Director, Meet Organizer and Safety Director. Review New Texas PG Co-nationals application and evaluate Comp Plan considering
pilot input.
