Rockets in Eastern Washington

The Waterville Plateau area of Central Washington has the best
consistent soaring conditions in the Northwest. The airspace is commonly shared
during the soaring season by glider, hang glider and paraglider pilots. Did you
know that the Washington Aerospace Club also uses airspace near Mansfield to
operate high powered rockets under an FAA waiver? The next time youre
thermaling low over Mansfield, dont be surprised if a high speed flaming object
darts past your wing! All glider, hang glider, paraglider pilots and other airspace users of Central
Washington are invited to attend the Seattle Glider Council General Membership
meeting on March 7 for a presentation by Robert Simpson-Clark, the Operations
Manager of the Washington Aerospace Club. He will show videos and discuss
rocketry operations and activities, with special emphasis on Mansfield and the
clubs airspace agreement with the FAA. This SGC General Membership meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on Monday, March 7
at the Museum of Flight, in the Red Barn Classroom. Use the main entrance and
ask guard for directions. Note: the Washington Aerospace Club is a member of the National Association of
Rocketry. Enthusiasts of all types of flight may wish to note that the WAC is
sponsoring this years NAR national conference (NARCON), to be held March 12 and
13 in Seattle.
