Groupon, the USHPA, and you
On-line coupon discounters are going wild. See
here,
for example. I've been pushing and publicizing how successfully the schools have
been using Groupon and their brethren to attract potential pilots to their site
ever since Steve Wendt jumped first and wrote up the story about how it went for
him. The schools who have done this have been wildly successful. Sometimes
(well, most often) way beyond their ability to respond to the demand without
getting help. (What a problem to have.)
I'm wondering if just reading these stories here is enough for all the schools
to get on the band wagon and bring in thousands of new students, or whether the
USHPA office could be of some help here. Right now they have a promotion going
on with the opening of the movie Rio. Maybe there can be a huge promotion that
combines Rio with all the Groupon promotion.
Perhaps what would help is having someone in the office calling around to five
or six of the schools that have done this and ask them how its going and what
issues they ran into. Or, maybe even easier, those of you who have done this,
can send in your story to the link at the Oz Report forum above to share with
others. Think of the questions that you had and answer them for those folks who
haven't taken the plunge.
And, those schools that haven't decided to use a Groupon promotion, please write
in (to the same Oz Report forum thread) asking your questions about how it went,
what you need to do and how to get prepared. Of course, a person at the USHPA
could make a few calls to also help this effort (and report on the thread). It
seems like a little more information from your fellow schools might help.
I think that the USHPA might be into this.
