Tin Cup - It's dark and raining

On Monday, I was sitting inside the Oz Report World Headquarters watching the
rain and thinking about how lucky it was that the rain didn't come until after
the Wills Wing Demo Days and 38th Anniversary Party. It's been mostly dry here
in Florida during this string of La Niña weather/climate. La Niña is weakening,
according to the Australia Bureau of Meteorology (see
here):
The La Niña event in the Pacific Ocean has continued to weaken over the past two
weeks as Pacific Ocean temperatures along the equator have warmed. All available
climate models suggest further weakening of the La Niña is likely through the
southern hemisphere autumn, with a return to neutral conditions likely by winter
2011.
Current observations of warming in the Pacific Ocean are consistent with the
life cycle of past La Niña events. In some contrast to the weakening in the
ocean, atmospheric indicators of the La Niña, including trade winds, cloudiness
and the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) remain consistent with a well developed
La Niña event. These atmospheric indicators are expected to return to neutral
over the coming months. During La Niña events, tropical cyclone numbers are typically higher than normal
during the November to April period, with February and March the peak. The
influence of La Niña on Australian rainfall and temperature typically peaks
during winter to mid-summer, and then weakens during the following autumn.
So it looks like drier conditions should be the norm in Australia next January
for the cross country open before the pre-Worlds in Forbes and afterwards at
additional competitions there for international pilots.
The forecast is for high chances of rain this week, all week, here in Florida,
with the sun breaking through on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe thunderstorms (and
therefore sunny mornings) and not the showers and totally dark skies like
Monday. We'll see. Gives me the time and focus to concentrate on hang gliding
