We are situated just a few miles south of Kankakee, Illinois,
south of Chicago, out on the wind swept and flat plains/prairie. Enjoy field,
the towing operation for the windy city, sits on a nondescript piece of former
farming land. It's got hangers and ponds, and an upstairs club house, and a
superb grass runway and room for RV's and campers and tents. Three portable
showers, fish in the pond, breakfast and dinner below the club house.

It was in the mid forties (Fahrenheit) when we got up this morning and got to 58
degrees around two o'clock. The winds were forecasted to be twenty to twenty two
knots average through the boundary layer. Right out of the north northeast
coming down from Lake Michigan and Chicago. The winds weren't so strong in the
morning, but increased after noon.

Thick mid level clouds in the morning added to the gloom, but after ten o'clock
the sun came out. The cu's came out right away also and they persisted even in
the winds.

The day was cancelled early based on the winds forecast local forecast 15 mph
gusting to 25). Pete Lehman and Pat Hatfield flew. It was pretty windy for a
competition day, hard to ground handle your glider.
