Texas flying from Columbus
Gregg Ludwigg towed them up and then reports:
Robin Hamilton is flying his Swift. Launched at 11 AM. I just heard from Mick Howard. His driver is on the way. He is not sure exactly
where he is but he reports near Corsicana, well past and NE of Hearne and east
of IH-45, about 150 statue miles from Columbus. Highest climb 6,800ft and best
climb 900fpm. He flew from 11am - 4:05pm.
It is blue, hot and windy in Texas. A few cu's earlier but dry
now. Gregg continues:
You'll recall flying with us at Columbus taking off from the
runway. The airport authority had some concerns about this activity and the
possibility of runway light damage from the dollies (and other issues). With
light winds we hauled tires out to protect the lights. This spring the city
graded and rolled a hard, smooth surface for us right adjacent to the runway and
1,000ft long for HG launching. We still climb out over the runway but leave the
dolly well clear of the runway and its lights. Robin went a little more north east flying four hours and about 130 statute
miles landing in Crockett. He said it was a great flight. (details later) It was a little windy during preflight so to get the trike safely out of the
hangar and on its way we strapped the tug pilot (me) into the trike while in the
hangar, got everything ready and then had the crew push me out of the hangar. It
was a fun day. Tow fees still $20. The airport at Columbus (picture from last year):
