Another gust front at the Crestline LZ yesterday. I was circling
at Marshall watching a faint wall approach from the east. The lift was getting
better, that really-smooth, everything going up where it shouldn't, forewarning
that I should probably land without further delay. As I circled over the LZ, the
flag switched from SW to east. 5 minutes later the first 20 mph wave hit, then
the 30 mph, then 40+. It was blowing dust and harnesses across the LZ. A Falcon
landed without incident in the first wave. A Talon was over the LZ when the 40+
wave hit has was blown back and crashed in the pit across from the LZ. The pilot
was lucky to survive a scary descent with only a broken collarbone. Mike made
the right decision to run for a downwind field and had an exciting landing.
