You will be relieved to know that the commercial for the Nissan
Frontier, as well as the one where the Frontier shows up out of nowhere to push
a stuck vehicle up a steep, sandy dune, were digitally created. And to answer
your other questions, a 747 fully loaded weighs about 440 tons and the maximum
hauling power of the Frontier is 1,500 pounds. Given all the variables, I couldn't find anyone who would definitively say how
much pressure the nose would exert on the pickup, but everyone agreed that it
would be far more than a pickup could support. The tires on the truck most
likely would explode, the landing gear likely would punch a hole in the truck
bed and the plane and pickup certainly would not come to that speedy a stop. The landing speed of a 747 is around 150 mph. A pickup with modifications might
be able to reach that speed, but not as quickly as the commercial implies. But the makers of the ad aren't really trying to convince us that the scenario
is real. The ads are intended to be eye-catchers and get us talking, which they
certainly have. If you watch the lower right hand of your screen when the
commercial starts, you'll see a disclaimer that the footage is fictional, and a
warning not to try it at home.
