This wave is common when we have a northerly in winter when the
convection on the south face of kinder scout is not strong enough to disrupt the
downwash into the Edale valley. Conveniently the primary wave seldom exceeds the
4500ft airspace ceiling above launch but sadly the wave is usually weaker
further east where we can go higher. Usually the wing is too strong for the pgs
to use it, but this day was exceptional. I flew about above the clouds for a few
hours and eventually landed half a mile from my house (no safe landing any
closer).
