Shapiro climbing

October brought me to a long awaited adventure into the heart of
Asia. We hoped for a stable post monsoon season, allowing for the weather window
we would need to climb in a mountain range from my dreams. We drove from Montana to LA, flew from LA to Hong Kong, onto the Sichuan capital
of Chengdu, then drove to Kangding (the gateway to Tibet) and finally to the
small Tibetan village of Laouyling. From there, horses and there whistling
handlers would help us get a months worth of food and gear into a base camp
under what I consider to be a mountain archetype. Its true we were going to
Asia to climb but the KAVU days spent discovering new and interesting culture,
meeting amazing people and eating some of the best food I could imagine are what
made this trip one of the best Ive ever had the privilege to experience.
